Manchester Terrier (Standard) History
The Manchester Terrier is descended from the Black and Tan Terrier and the Minature Greyhound. This dog was bred in Manchester, Englind. The lightness and elegance of it's gait to can be attributed to the Miniature Greyhound, while it's share intellegence, speed, and hatred of rats comes from the Terrier. They are so good at catching rats that they are nicknames "Rat Terriers". It's said that no pesticide has beed able to outdo the Manchester Terrier in the elimination of rats.
Manchester Terrier (Standard) Description
The Manchester Terrier he has a fine, shiny coat, a naturally short tail, a round
head. and a well-balanced body that is slender, yet very sturdy. The coat is typically black, with
tawny patches distributed irregularly on his head, chest, and legs.
With regard to their disposition, one source notes that "The Manchester Terrier deserves to be more popular as a pet".
